| One of my seed companies likes to talk about how they treat their seed with "multiple species of fungal endophytes" and "over 25 unique biologicals (fungi and bacteria)". Then they go on to tell how they also apply multiple fungicides (Metalaxyl, Prothioconazole, and Fluoxastrobin were 3 main ones on my corn in '24). Wait a second...
Yes, I'm sure there is some sales gimmick type stuff going on here. Yes, I could also see how bacteria wouldn't necessarily be impacted/killed by the fungicide. ...But the fungi and fungicide I just can't get my head around. Help me out:
1) Are there selective fungicides? (Fluoxastrobin at least I thought was a broad spectrum...)
2) Is there a reason to believe fungi and fungicides could live together on the seed?
3) If I was to apply the fungal endophytes and other fungi products in furrow (by themselves or with some humic and sugar) would fungicides around the seed be expected to be taken up into the plant in such a way that they would limit or cause antagonistic effects to the in-furrow application?
Thanks in advance! | |
