Subject: Things that make you go hummmm. HYD Cylinder seal kits

just a tish NE of central ND
The repair is a 535 JD baler door cylinder leak. I bought a cylinder repair kit. Myabe a 2 inch bore at the biggest. About 55$ for it and it didn't match my O ring thickness, so I knew it was the wrong one. I returned it for the right one which was 100$ for about the same number of rings and seals of variable thickness but generally the same bore and shaft size. Someone has to pay to get the kit only to throw half of it away. The kits are made for at least 2 different cylinder plunger sizes. Therefore, you throw away half the enclosed new rubber rings that have no use to the purchaser. There must be 9 different versions of that same cylinder kit over the balers build dates and serial numbers.
My 10-year-old case combine auger swing cylinder shows the repair kit seals for north of 700&.....Good golly, miss molly! I thought the baler seals were high. Ill bet they are a fraction of the cost a hydraulic shop.
