For those who are thinking about a trip to New Zealand:
A good NZ friend of mine hosted some guests from the "States". He has modest means and it almost broke him. The New Zealand custom is for the guest to pay for meals, trips and other adventures. His guest spend big and lived it up on my friends account. He was in big trouble in a week or so. Of course in the U.S. the host often treats the guest to lots of things but my friend didn't expect it and wasn't ready for what happened.
You should work this out as 150pilot did.

Our system started out as offering to pay for dinners out with our host, but he insisted that every bill be split 50/50. I did so. They had gone way out of their way to do many things for us, as I have done for them when they have been here. I did pay for the ride in a Float plane for us all as a way to help balance out the large gift we were receiving. A radial engine DHC 3 Otter on straight floats for the pilots in the crowd. It was $900 NZ but I would do it again. It's in Rotorua if anyone wants to try it. Tell Ben, the pilot, I sent you.
They are coming here again in July and I have more plans of things to see and do together, besides EAA air venture.
