NEMO | You didn't spell out how much you farm now, but it's hard to imagine that it's enough to sustain 4 families in years to come. My Dad had a similar viewpoint and thought enough was enough...he changed that idea later in life when he could see that the farm he had built (while passing up many opportunities) wasn't big enough to pay for newer machinery. What I'm trying to say is, today's big may be tomorrows mid size. Buy it now, land is a great investment, give your sons wiggle room in the future. To use your words "why buy it", wiggle room, flexibility for the next generation. Ask your 2 older ones and see what they say. Buy it and pass on a good deal to them
