I have an 87' C10 with a 5.3 LS in it. I love it. Starts right up, smooth running and really good power. I did a stock engine rebuild kit on it and a bigger cam and its really enjoyable to drive. Wiring sort of is a pain, but there are many pre built harnesses you can use to make it easier.

If I did it again I'd still go with the 5.3L. OR I would build a 383 with aftermarket FI system if you want the small block look/sound. The 5.3L does have a different sound than the old small block.
