Subject: RE: Clipping feral rye in winter wheat

SE Washington
Stole this idea from a friend, but I've been using a milwaukee electric hedge trimmer to walk fields and mow rye in wheat. It is especially useful in large patches along field edges. Timing is the most important part, I would say later is better than earlier but you have to hit the window when it's time to go. Go to early and you end up with the little shooters. I'll err on taking some wheat as well to get the lower rye heads. I've gone back after I trimmed and checked heads to make sure they don't develop and they don't.
