Yea I've clipped with great success. I'd say about 10 days after the bloom when the seed is just forming but before it makes a germ . If you get a bunch of rain after it will come regardless.

Problem is by the time the rye has grown that big the damage is done and its trashed your yields. Its more of an emergency situation for me when I physically need the wheat for contract. Stoping it before its in your field is essential IMO.
