The US government owns a total of 640 million acres. Most of that is desert or mountains so what is it really worth? At $1000 per acre that's a total of 640 billion dollars. That's a lot for land that takes over 40 acres per cow calf pair. To put it simply if all federal land was sold it would not cover even 1/2 of the interest on the national debit.

If the government was really serious about balancing the budget the first thing they need to cut and one thing they can control that is the interest rate. Step one drive it to zero. 4% of 36 trillion dollars is 1.44 trillion dollars no way to cut enough from the rest of the budget with that coming off the top.

Zero interest = massive inflation.

We could indeed inflate our way out of the national debt, but the monetary meltdown would be so epic they’d still be studying it in the year 3000.
