Yes, its a choose your poison situation. Seed rye real thick, we can have good weed control, but more slugs and voles
seed it thinner, twh and marestail can slip through, but natural predators ( hawks etc) can get the voles easier and there is more sun to get the surface against the slugs
I broadcast 50# on the surface in oct/nov
