Same issue. If the cistern went empty got no water. The line air locked, the gravity feed of the cistern was too low pressure to get through the air bubble.
I needed to add 2 full portable tanks of air in the bottom. With the line full of air, opening the valve then the water gravity fed down the line fast enough to blow the air bubble out.
I’m very familiar with your situation, and how often I would think maybe one tank of air is enough this time - in the dead of winter. Yea. No, then I would need to go get 2 more tank fulls. Sigh.
