Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I use an App called Alfred. It can work with various devices. Some devices such as a smartphone or tablet can be setup as a camera or viewer since they have Internet access. My office computer can be setup as a viewer only since it has Internet access but no camera. A standalone camera could be setup as a camera if it has Internet access but can not be used as a viewer.
I find this works fine with an old beat up iPhone 6. The camera and WiFi still work but the case is cracked and the SIM card have been moved to a newer phone. The old phone still works fine as a camera for the Alfred system since it just sits in a stand and plugged in to a charger. It communicates with the Internet through the WiFi in my home.
I can view it and any other cameras, phones or tablets that I have setup as Alfred viewers. Since the iPhone 6 points out the back window, I can observe any action in my dooryard from my office computer, my current iPhone, my iPad or an Android tablet. While on vacation, I setup one of the tablets in the office to point at a conventional thermometer. This allowed me to check the back yard and the temperature in the house while away from home.
The Alfred system is available for free (with Ads of course) or as a paid version with more features. One feature is a movement detector. If the backyard camera senses motion it starts recording and sends me a message. When I hear the message, I can elect to watch the action live or watch a short video of what caused it to alert. It is very sensitive. One day a squirrel ran across my sidewalk and set it off. Another time, a lady beetle crawled across the window screen and set it off.
The yearly subscription for the deluxe package was $7 which I thought was worth it. I would not be able to use Alfred in my shop or shed since I do not have Internet access in those locations.
The screenshot below is from the Alfre App. It is a bit fuzzy since the picture was taken through the screen on the window.
