I like my John Deere wrenches better than my Snap On ones because the beam is wider and doesn't hurt my hand as bad when pulling on them. No one beats Snap On for ratchets. I just cringe when I have to use anything else except for maybe Matco. I have lots of Sunex impact sockets and they have held up good. Knipex for plyers wit a few special Snap on ones.
The best value in tools is used Snap On. I bought 2, 1/2 inch rachets last week for $200. They were new never used. One was over $300 on the truck. Bought a 3/8 mid length socket set for $300 and it is $1400 on truck. If needing a full set for a new service truck or outfitting a shop look for someone selling a box with tools. They bring nothing close to what they are worth because everyone needing all those tools already has most of them and most young guys starting out can't afford to buy all of them at one time
Used Snap On boxes are the best value and can be bought for harbor freight prices. Snap On guys want a box that is perfect and one with a few scratches and a dent of two can be bought at a bargain price. You have to be patient to find the exact color and box you want or be flexible and just buy a box that will work in whatever color pops up locally. I gave $800 for a road box that was perfect. Now get this, The lady of the house had been using it to store her jewelry. Never had a tool in it.
Was headed to the hardware store in my Duramax yesterday, and the fuel filter quit on me. No big deal, I pulled into the carquest, and they had one. Turns out I didn’t have my ½ drive ratchet with me to use with the strap wrench. So had to buy one. I was cringing badly in that store looking at their ratchets. I usually only buy Snap On. Bought a $33 Die Hard, 90T.
Finish is great, but first time I used the reverse lever, I could tell it was no Snap On. But, I will say, other than that little grittiness in that switch, the thing is kinda nice for $33. I still feel dirty buying it, but I had to have one and that’s all they had.
I did buy my first Snap On box this summer, used off Marketplace. Gave $1500 for it, had to go get it. New one was going to be $3000 off the truck for the same thing. I love it. No dents or scratches. Looking at what $1500 buys in HF or other box stores makes me glad I put the extra effort in to buy a nice used one.
