The raw price of corn is such a small percentage of food cost while the price of transportation is a fairly large percentage. Yet any study that talks about how ethanol raises food costs likely ignores it's effect on the transportation costs. Also while ethanol uses the carbohydrate portion of the corn, the byproduct is relatively high in protein. So is the effect of more protein byproducts on the market figured into the analysis?
