| Thanks for the response, he own 100 acres and leases the rest. He owns the equipment also. We do strictly corn and soybeans no irrigation.
Yes he does have family, none of them are interested in farming itself but is married. I am friends with the family too but nothing close to the family relationship I have with him and his and she is also like a grandma to me. However he is the decision make her like in the golden times.
There is that risk of him dying and obviously at 84 could unfortunately be any time and he does have some health issues. There is no foreseeable inheritance from him to me, though he's lightly joked about it. I feel if he was going to give me something he would have, but I would never expect that.
The risk also in my head is obviously I'm not family and like you said there is a lot of money that could be made. If I don't own any of it outright and he dies I could lose it. So I'd need a contract in place. He does not think the family would sell the farm, and thinks if I farmed it they would keep it because it would have meaning still | |
