If you're doing some planting/ drilling probably the biggest question you need to answer is how much accuracy do you need? WAAS signal is free, but nowhere near accurate enough for planting. You could get a system with Omni star/ greenstar starfire 1. That would still be a free guidance service with better accuracy than WAAS. (15" error with WAAS vs probably 8" Omnistar VBS/ starfire 1) You can get better accuracy, but it will require a subscription to a correction service. The ultimate is RTK accuracy. That will get you under 1" of error, but often means paying $1800 a year for a subscription to an RTK correction service. Some states have a free CORS network that broadcast RTK corrections for free, but then you need a way for the tractor to receive the corrections over the internet, usually via cellular data service.
If I were in your shoes, I would try to figure out which correction service I wanted to use, then find the hardware to match it. |
