Had 15" planter and 30" planter for 6 years. Side by side in many fields with same variety, same populations, and also variable rates. No statistically significant differences in yield. Combined nicer in 15" as it was an even feed on the cutter bar, but even the shading/canopying sooner didn't seem to make a difference in weed pressure (i.e. still come up alongside the beans not the middle). Switched to 1 30" planter and saved the money on wear parts, make it easier to spray, and moved on.
