Iowa - Floyd County
I really like our 22" soybeans, shades the row early and don't have the white mold issues some do. Only issue I ever ran into was trying some lower population plots and the ground got hard before emergence, the beans were spaced far enough apart that they had issues getting up, the higher population spots were able to break the crust much easier and get up. The last few years we were on 36" rows we double planted the soybeans to make 18" rows, it worked pretty good but there was more disease pressure, mostly white mold, and it took a long time to plant. I'm sure improvements in genetics have played into the lesser white mold issues as well on 18" vs. 22" row spacing.
