Fond du lac | We have a Seed Jet II since 2000, a J&M 375ST w/conveyor since 2012 and J&M 450 pro w/cup auger new last year.
No really issue with any of them.
Conveyor
Pros: length
fill speed in wheat and corn,
clean out is easier,
can carry more seed.
We don’t see any damage in any of seeds.
Can transfer to different things really easy
Usually have Hydraulic gate with this machines so easier to shut off flow
Can take full days of seed needs with you
Con: really expensive about $30,000 more now then 2012
Slower in Soybeans because the beans roll backwards in conveyor
Should use 3/4 - 1ton truck to pull around
Auger
Pro: cheaper options
Multiple configurations
Faster in bean
Adequate speed in wheat
We won’t use for corn because we need the length reach to fill
Lighter can use anybody vehicle to move around
Cons:
Reach
No power shutoff to auger at least for us
Clean out is as good
What’s left in the auger after shutting pro box can get damage if you run the auger to long with being full
Have to worry about losing pro box covers if you don’t add additional straps to hold down
Need pro boxes, or pro boxes for bulk seed delivery. Can’t deliver as much bulk seed. Our coop delivers
If you plant more then 4 pro boxes a day you need to have someone refill it.
Seed jet
Pro: will probably be cheap
Reach isn’t a problem
Can mount to anything.
Con:
Dust
Noise
Speed. Everybody complains about it, but I remember filling (helping dad) a 30ft drill with bags what is that 50-60 bags every 30 or so acres while planting 200-240,000sds/acre. I will take the seed jet all day over that
Dragging the hose around. Wasn’t issue for us because we had boom mounted to planter
