Subject: Solar Leases on Crop Ground

Very against the concept, but curious how the process works. There’s a guy in my area who has “signed up” 1,000+ acres with a solar company and currently has another couple hundred acres installed.

The first couple hundred acres have been in operation for a couple years, and additional acres have been signed up over a year, maybe longer.. He has said he hasn’t heard from anyone regarding the extra acres… But I’m curious what does this “signed up” process look like?

I believe I have heard that the solar company has 5-7 years to make something happen? Is money being collected by the landowner for signing up and giving the solar company rights to it for x years? Can a property be removed after signing up without huge fees?

Interested to hear others experiences..
