Tuscola, IL | Honesty can’t go wrong with an 8100. Though I don’t have a lot of experience with them it’s hard to deny they have a pretty solid reputation.
That said, the MX200 and MX220 had far fewer problems overall than the MX240 and MX270 built at the same time. But even with the bigger models, most of the “chronic” problems were overblown. That series was the first go around of CANBUS for Case IH and, like most things, they were late to the party getting techs trained on how to repair them and have a working knowledge of the way they function. So, what would be a small hurdle today was replacing several parts or entire wiring harnesses back then because no one knew how they worked.
The hydraulic lines under the cab are/were an issue. Most I’ve seen replaced were never replaced a second time. Electronically I don’t think they’re any less reliable than anything else built at the same time. Most people seem to blow electrical issues out of proportion as far as frequency and severity anyway. By comparison to what is rolling out of the factory today, they’re pretty simple electronics on those tractors.
Personal opinion I’d give the 8100 a slight advantage but I sure wouldn’t pay much more for one. | |
