I hear complaints about subsidies for SpaceX. However, from what I can tell, it is cheaper for the government to subsidize SpaceX, then hire them to launch a satellite than it is for NASA to do it themselves. If the concern is excessive government spending, why not go with the way that accomplishes the goal for the least amount of total spending?
