A 504 will generally start very well into the low 20's. The 5.9l CDC in my excavator will fire off unassisted at zero. Not sure why, could be the 24v system. But it will do it if need be.


24v is really a game changer starting cold. Have the same 3.9 cummins in a backhoe 12v and excavator 24v and backhoe requires a jump in cold weather to turn over fast enough. Both start cold pretty well if they turn over fast enough.
