Subject: RE: Train vs semi stuck on tracks

coast of Maine
A number of years ago one of my trucks was cut in 1/2 by a train.Sun was setting behind my drivers truck making the flashing lights appear to be all same color,,steady. He crosses track (US rte 2) spots train headlight ,mashes throttle, misses semi tractor and cuts aluminum walking floor fully loaded with demo in 1/2.Small train derails. There were 3 guys in the train, all lived and zero injuries except fear and a few bruises. The truck had nary a scratch.Trailer pieces. With all costs just shy of a million $$ we paid.(insurance) mostly.Even though the train was going beyond its reg speed, crosing lights were known defective at sunset,no horn supposed. The trains have 100 % rights of way,,no matter what and are never ever found liable,,this is from some 1880"s ish congressional rule or law.I always wondered what the train operators thought when they went thru my trailer almost head first,,,The above wreck is crazy and sad for the families. They have crossing bars at my trucks wreck site now...hmmm
