My brother had a conversation about appliances with the local appliance repair guy when he came out to repair his Maytag washing machine. He said don't buy Bosch or rather said don't call him if you do need service on their appliances. Instead of the govt requiring companies to keep track of all the emissions out of their plants, maybe the govt should require them to publish the number of repairs and failures of their products by model # and year of production. Maybe even require them to post their reliability rating on the items. It might change the focus from how to make the cheapest product to how to produce the product that has the fewest failures in say 10 years for appliances, etc.
