Blooming where I am planted! | Hello everyone, it's been a minute since I posted here. Some of you may remember me, and a man who posted on here from time to time. We met here on New Ag Talk. I wasn't looking to date somebody. I was looking to volunteer on a farm. I had a corporate job in Chicago. I posted here looking for somebody who would be willing to have me as a volunteer. I was willing to work hard and get dirty.
The reception here was initially hostile, and I was dismayed. Now I understand why. There are so many farmer wannabees, and so many who didn't grow up on a farm don't understand what it takes to be a farmer or farm wife.
At any rate, it all worked out in the end. I moved from my native Chicago to my husband's farm in Kansas. The learning curve has been almost straight up. I am so thankful for all of the people who have entertained my dumb newbie questions and have been so patient with me and served as my mentors. By no means am I done learning. When I left chicago, I thought I was leaving Corporate America. And I did, for 10 years.
My friend convinced me to come back. There was an opportunity as a 1099, part time with a flexible schedule. I've been there almost 5 years now, working from home, and it's working out very well. Along the way, I have discovered a poultry addiction and I now breed chickens, docks, geese, guineas, pheasants, turkeys, and peafowl.
Today we are celebrating our 14-year wedding anniversary thanks to New Ag Talk!
