E ND | Private flying in your own plane would very rarely make sense economically but you said practical....so the practical part is the convenience, ability to fly direct and avoid TSA, layovers, etc. Small plane traffic is often best handled by smaller airports, suburbs, etc. Depends on where you're flying to and from, may be good or bad. I have heard from a good friend who also flies that he hired another pilot on a trip to NY area to look at a used machine as the traffic is unreal on the east coast and even an experienced pilot has their hands full with the admin side in addition to flying the plane.
Icing, safety, license, insurance would all be hurdles to overcome. Many private pilots buy into a club flying the type of plane you're interested in to keep the costs reasonable but that obviously has other drawbacks from a convenience/timing standpoint.
