northeastern Ohio | I have a well that used to feed the house, main barn and calf barn. No heat in the main barn anymore, so I moved the pressure tank to the calf barn and installed the pressure switch in the well casing. I could not get it to work.
Decided to dig a hole beside the well and bury the pressure tank. I found there were 2 fittings outside of the well casing that were plugged up with iron. See picture below. When the well pump kicked on, it would spike the pressure and trip the pressure switch off. When the pressure bled off, the pump would kick back on. Short cycling.
Plugged lines cause a lot of problems like this. But you should also check the bladder pressure in your pressure tank. Need to drain the tank and then fill it to 2 psi below your kick in pressure. For example, if you have a 40/60 switch, you need 38 psi in the tank. If the pressure is low, then it will also short cycle the pump just like a plugged line.
