The talk about fasting starts at about minute 33. Long presentation. Think my wife and I got most of it but would not swear either of us didn't doze off a time or two at some point.

I think the longest my wife and daughter has done is a day and a half or maybe two days fast. She did that a few times.

We pretty regularly eat just two meals a day so often have around 16 hours of fasting. We don't while we are down here in Bonaire because the lady that does breakfast cooks us two eggs every morning except Sunday. So we have a light breakfast. Today we sikipped lunch and went scuba diving instead and I think we may start doing that.

Anyone can go 24 hours without much if any danger assuming they are not taking a prescription drug that can cause them problems (like insulin or diabetic medicines for example that can cause dangerously low blood sugars if not managed properly). Get beyond 24 hours expecially the longer fasts of more than a couple days a person needs to be aware of how they refeed to not run into refeeding syndrome. Mostly a person does not want to gorge at the time of the end of the fast and instead drink something like bone broth or eat a small amount of lean protein, then wait a couple hours before eating a full meal. That is my limited understanding which could be wrong.

Most autophagy normally occours while fasting in the over night time period while also sleeping. By extending the fasting period a person can extend and perhaps enhance the normal autophagy time span. On the other hand if a person has high insulin levels throughout the night autophagy may never get a chance to happen. Autophagy is where old worn out cells get a chance to die and be reconstituted and recycled back as components to be used again by the body. One line of thought is that when autophagy is not working properly that is potentially where a lot of the common non infectious diseases take hold and get started in the body. Like I said, my understanding, might be wrong.

Edit: We have never done dry fasting. We always drink water according to thirst. I guess I have never considered doing dry fasting.
