scmn | Explain how my numbers are off considering I based mine on facts. FACT: samples were collected from 100 bales FACT: samples were analized by lab for nutrients FACT: groups of bales were weighed and correlated to samples I know actual bale weight, DM%, and % nutrients by group of bales which makes calculating actual removal per bale pretty accurate. The likelihood of 100 bales sampled 2x per bale hitting the absolute lowest nutrient samples and then being off by a factor of 3 is close to impossible. Figures don't lie, but liars figure. Which is why I calculated using real data from samples taken on bales we produced; interestingly enought our results were within 9% of UMN published results for baled stalk removal. It has been hashed out before on NAT that calculators seed companies use includes all plant naterial both above and below ground. 1) Baled stalks only harvest above ground plant matter, 2) you never get 100% of above ground, 3) most companies also state numbers subject to vary based on regiin, variety, and growing conditions, 4) by harvest time a lot ofthe nutrients have washed out of stalk compared to in growing season.
