Then what is joining? I've not seen that option.

You replied to my explanation of what joining is a couple of posts above...

Long story short, Patreon existed first, then became very popular, and the people at Google realized that, and made their own version through YouTube.

So, joining is Google/YouTube's version of Patreon, but Google/YouTube takes a larger share, around 30%, where Patreon takes 5% to 12% of the money.
