| Could probably raise for Niman. If farrowing, they need 64 sq. ft. of pen space if not let in and out 2x a day. They always need access to water. Wean to finish for Niman, I haven't been hearing good things in regards to profit when I'm unloading hogs at the collection point. One guy told me he's not going to get any more weaned pigs to finish. IIRC, farrow to finish producers get $13-15/head premium, wean to finish get $1. And I'm not making much doing farrow to finish for them. You also have to figure in their "trucking payment" to you is less than the "trucking expense" on the same settlement sheet, so you effectively get a discount over the premiums they tell you. | |
