Light frosts will dry out the crop and will be fine.

A sudden hard frost ruptures cell walls and turns standing alfalfa into nitroglycerin. Had two cows a few years ago jump a hot wire day or two after first hard frost....both teats up about 50' into a frosted alfalfa field.
