is at what point did WalMart become the devil?

When they resort to rule bending to get a leg up on the competition. supposedly our local wal-mart they talked the locals into not charging property tax, and threaten to leave whenever its discussed.

When it was first built, there were 4 other grocery stores in town, now only wal-mart remains. I drive 20 extra miles to go grocery shopping at a Kroger store (Dillons) , or 50 miles to a safeway. Id have to drive further to go to an "independent"

I understand your frustration, but unless everywhere else is different than what I’m used to in KY and TN, there’s always tax deals cut for anything of a decent size the brings jobs or other influences to the local economy. It usually boils down to if town A gives a bigger tax break than town B, they’re going to put it in town A. These smaller areas forget whether they really can afford to forego the taxes, just like some farmers at auction, they’re not going to lose a deal to the next town over and will cut off their nose just to spite their face in that situation.
