Thanks for the info. What kind of capacity does your machine have and what is the limiting factor? Maybe I am just expecting too much or pushing mine too hard but no other ones around here to compare to. I plan on keeping this thing as a backup as it's not worth much anyway but still want it to be the best it can be without spending too much time or money on it.
Sure. In edibles my biggest limitation is my head. I can only go as fast as I can cleanly clip them. In relatively tall 18% blacks, running 30cwt./20' head and air bar, I can only cut at 2 or 2.25mph for the most part because shatter is a real issue. Really, poor beans/short/thin is slower. Something like soybeans is a whole lot easier! There, in 50bu beans I can push 4mph pretty easy and not get much for header loss. Wheat, running 100bpa and cutting a foot below the heads can approach 5mph. Of course, all this depends on crop conditions and the lay of the land. Rotor loss is about nothing, shoe loss isn't much of an issue in dry, fit crops. Tough stems, weeds, can be a problem.
Your combine is one rasp bar wider than mine and so has a wider feeder house. There's just a bunch more potential capacity.
I suppose in a perfect world I'd be pushing a 25' flex draper with an air bar in front of my old R52. I think that would solve a lot of my limitations. Unfortunately, I don't live in that perfect world, so I'll just have to make do! Funny thing, there was a thread on here a few days ago with a fella asking how fast most guys cut edibles. There was quite a range, but I guess I was too embarrassed by my slowness to post a reply! |
