For all the sugarbeet growers out there, I don’t know enough about it, specifically with American crystal but also in general, how many acres per share can a guy grow? Beyond that, how many acres per truck does the coop figure for harvest? How many acres of beets make it worth the time, money, and efforts?
NE ND experiencing unusual heat and harvest is now shut down for 2+ days. Cooler next week so harvest will start up again possibly Saturday. Beets maybe 40% harvested. Want root temp below 55 degrees for long term storage. Farmers with anything from 100 acres to 5,000 acres. Some have beet stock paid for, many don't. Lots of shares rented out by Investors and retired farmers or families of former farmers. ACSC is trying to get the "Investors" out of owning shares. It's a coop so they prefer to get back to Coop Members owning shares. That will take years to work through. Over the past 40+ years, Beets have been the most profitable crop over the long run. If they don't make money on beets, those years are usually not profitable. Certain years when commodity prices jump, that may change, but overall they are the profit maker. |
