Scranton | Renting a machine will be a lot of the cost of an engine. We farm a little different with our organic. We plant in late may to help with weed control and getting the corn up and off to the races. So we are used to harvesting well into november every single year. Our corn right now is in the mid 20's moisture wise as it black layered around the first of oct. We do a large amount of custom baling stalks so we have that to work on this week while our combine is waiting to be repaired.
We have a top notch private mechanic doing our work. We ordered the Deere without all the accessories, which he will remove from ours and attach to the new one in his shop. He is pulling ours out tomorrow and deere says new one will be here friday. His hope is being done by middle of next week.
He said he'd probably be a little cheaper rebuilding it this winter, but really almost a negligible difference.
Thanks for all the advice everyone who shared. I don't know if this is the right decision but it seems like the best decision right now. I plan on keeping this combine a number of years. We are on year 2. Kept our 9610 for 11 years. | |
