Subject: RE: Hobart Oklahoma cotton gin for sale

Pittsburg, Kansas

We grew stripper cotton here in SE Ks for three years as a trial run. We could grow it. Gin out in central Kansas (Winfield) processed it.

To me it is what I imagine a trophy wife would be like. Pretty to look at but a lot of trouble and high maintenance. Couldn't make any more money than on corn or beans, and they are a LOT less trouble. Seems like with the cotton just as well have the sprayer idling at the edge of the field when the crop scout showed up, as something was going to need to be sprayed on. And us being the hind teat of producers he always showed up on Friday afternoon so was not a hit with employees that were going to need to work Saturday to spray.

So we got rid of the junk harvest equipment we had bought to try it out (thank goodness we hadn't invested big bucks in newer equipment - old equipment also doesn't make employees happy) and gave up on it. It was kind of fun to learn about it. Was more fun to quit growing it.
