East Central, Nebraska | i assume you mean 500 gallons and not pounds?
i would take a look at what your using propane for and what your usage might be and go from there. you may have sufficient storage right now. as long as the tank doesn't leak then having some extra might not be a bad idea. I have a 500 gallon and i heat a somewhat inefficient large house and a new large garage and i see no reason to get a bigger tank. its just like anything if you try to outguess the market youll usually be wrong. i don't believe there is any ideal time to buy any fuel. find a good propane business and if they are good people they will look out for their customers and fill you up when the price is right. my area as in every other are good businesses and bad. they will want to know if you want to be 'kept full' or if you will want to call when you need filled. typically the keep full will save you a little bit because they can top you off when going by, the downfall obviously being you cannot take advantage of your propane price speculating talent and save tens of dollars.
overall i don't think your going to beat the system buying extra tanks or bigger ones and trying to speculate. typically on the keep full programs you end up hopefully in the average for the year and don't every have to worry about how low the tank is. one bit of advice, dont let it run out. here in nebraska not only does it get cold but they legally have to pressure check the system when it runs out. | |
