western wi | im not all that far from you. it can be done and be done well. residue will be your biggest issue. i tried no tilling coc, after about the 4th or 5th year there was so much residue i had to do something. i couldnt get an even planting depth even with row cleaners. so i went to vertical till. a pass in the fall and a pass in the spring. it worked well. iactually had less ersosion with vt than notill. a few years ago i put calmers rolls on my corn head. that was a game changer. i no-tilled at leasst half my acres this year. there was basically bare ground bettween last years rows. you'll need some extra n. also hybrid selection is a big part of it, to me any way. i want a hybrid fast out of the ground and very good disease tolarnce. | |
