South Eastern VA | My first thought when you say “HEL ground” is always no till but that’s my thing. I get over 50 inches of rain on average so I have seen even the best long term no till corn and beans on flat ground get washed into the creek when one of our crazy summer thunderstorms come through.
In your case I would take at least two fields and and just no till corn on corn. You’ll be surprised how much time is saved just by leaving out a couple tillage passes. I also farm at night and weekends so a time saver is ALWAYS a wonderful thing.Lol
I’m wondering if contour farming could work for you? Especially if you do the alternative strips with corn and beans or whatever other crop fits your operation.
I work for a farmer and tillage is his true love in life. I call and say hey man I’ve worked this field 4 times in every direction so what’s next.
His reply is always, “ Disc it 4 more times” hahaha
I thought I was doing it wrong when I first started there. Lol | |
