Not sure what soil can store what we often get in April and may without causing anaerobic conditions but it’s not mine. We only have 4-6” of the 20-40” of soil you have, our subsoil doesn’t give back it’s moisture in dry weather. 5 to 15” of rain early just makes for swamps here. Once fields are tiled that excess leaves and keeps everything at field capacity. I bet on average I get 5-10” of rain you don’t per year. And unfortunately it’s not during the growing season.
