west-byGod-Pa. | Just after WWI, an Armor unit-in training in Panama got two early, crude tanks stuck. A winch truck was brought in to pull them out. The operator decided he had enough which to pull them both out at the same time, as one was directly behind the other. So link-up was done & he began to pull. Two Army lieutenants stood by, observing-not interfering. At some point, the heavy wire rope snapped. The ragged end of it went whipping past the two lieutenants, missing their faces by mere inches, mowing down a grove of saplings right beyond them. The lieutenants: Dwight David Eisenhower, & George Patton. | |
