This^^. Doesn’t disturb the whole field. Can place nutrients under the crop. I strip both corn and soybeans. Corn for 20+ years. Soybeans since 2008.
I do this with long term controlled traffic. So some areas haven’t seen tillage since I went to RTK. Yup. Mark has an agronomy degree that he’s putting to good use on his own farm. Proper drainage and striptill are his low hanging fruit, fairly sure he’d agree with me on that comment. For guys on 20-30” rows for both corn and beans, the strip till machine can be amortized over all the acres, making it much more affordable. Beans also prefer a little warmer environment the narrow black strip with fertility right there affords. The top two corn yield guys, Hula and Dowdy, along with the three time soybean world record holder, all utilize striptill. If it’s good enough for them ought be good enough for others too Id say. |
