| If you have RTK, you could split the middles (at half the seed rate) and make +/- 7.5" row wheat, if not, then plant a 2nd time at a small angle. That will gain you 10-15% higher wheat yields, compared to 15" rows. You could no-till it the wheat into bean ground (if the residue is spread well) and convert your tillage pass into a 2nd pass with the planter.
100 bu/ac x 10-15% is 10-15 bu/ac x $6.00 per bushel ? Thats another $60.00-90.00 per acre and probably 2-3X the profit! (run your own numbers). But 10-15% lower yields with 15" wheat, compared to 7.5" wheat is very well documented across many replicated row spacing research trials (at least across the higher rainfall areas of the eastern half of the US). | |
