SE Nebraska | Hope everyone is having good luck this harvest and fall calving season.
We are seeing ugly temp swings of up to 90 in the day and down to 50 at night. Week old baby calves are taking it pretty hard. I am guessing the super dusty conditions dont help things either. I walk the pen morning and night and look at each calf so I am able to catch suspect calves before it goes too far downhill. Been treating with 1cc draxxin and 1cc dexomethasone. Another shot of dex the next day if I feel they could use it.
What is everyone's go to drugs for treating pneumonia in very young calves caused by the temperature swings. I feel the draxxin isn't quite knocking it out of the park like it has in years past. Thoughts?
**Update** Made it through the hot Saturday. Still 30+ degree swinging temps ahead and up to 90 a few days this week. Gave Nuflor to the last one I treated and it seems to have worked well. Got a bottle of Baytil on hand now and will treat with that as needed but last night everyone looked good.
