North Central Indiana | Might be a ghost town because everyone is working instead of posting on here… just a thought you moron. But I’ll clue you in for “here” and you’ll ignore my response like you have my responses, pictures, yield data all summer. Beans are rough on our section of Northern Indiana. The elevator actually called and asked today what the average has been so far trying to get a feel for what bins to use for what crop. 15% off our rolling 5 year bean average and talking to guys in a 40 mile radius that sounds about right for everyone. It sucks, we had record bean plants in early July but they just never got any moisture to actually finish. Nice tall stalks, decently podded, but nothing to show for it. Corn has been the mixed bag I said it would be here. Harvested fields that really hurt, done with about 1/4 of our corn and we’ve been in fields that were 25% under the rolling 5 year average. We’ve also been in corn that will be 10% over the same rolling field average. Really dependent on location and variety so far in corn. Had our seed territory manager out to ride for a few days and he asked why I thought we had the results we did. I laughed and said “we had no real rains for 2 months.” Almost couldn’t believe he asked, maybe it was you! Can’t be many guys that clueless out there. I will say to the positive side, our late planted corn looks to be fantastic. Can’t say for sure why that is, but about 15% of our corn was planted right at the end of May and first few days of June and we have high hopes. Should be done with beans middle of next week assuming things go smoothly and the next corn we’ll be in looks to be a stinker as well. But such is life. On the radio last evening cutting beans my uncle said “insurance will make up the difference, let’s be thankful they’re cutting nice.” We won’t “help” the record crop the way we were expected to but maybe others make up the difference. Less than average yield won’t put us out of business, and neither will lower prices. So we aren’t too excitable either way | |
