Subject: RE: Catechism Confirmation class

Windom, MN
Ours has become much more involved, but I don't think its a bad thing.

Sunday school is 3YO-6th grade.

Then Confirmation starts in 7th grade. Bible study, 10 sermon notes for the year (the year is the school year). 8th grade is Luther's small catechism, 15 sermon notes a year. 9th grade is more bible study and 15 sermon notes a year and faith statements. Have to memorize the Apostle's Creed and Lord's Prayer too in 9th grade. Confirmation is Reformation Sunday of your sophomore year. All years have small group leaders too where they discuss issues today and how it relates back to the bible and faith. I think it's a good program, seems the kids come out knowing more about the faith than I do.

My oldest was confirmed last year, middle is in 8th grade. Last day of Confirmation was a bible trivia event where kids and parents faced off. I did not beat my daughter, so I think that's a good thing.

I was confirmed in 1997, we had a 2 year program, a lot of memorization, and no sermon notes. I don't remember any of the memorization other than "What does this mean" I also feel that having the small group guides is a good thing, relating faith and church to today. I don't remember that being a thing in my confirmation, and keeping kids going to church is important.
