how long did it take to train them to that as opposed to a conventional parlor?
My dad had a double 4 later converted to a double 8 herringbone for around 50 cows. He quit in 2012
There where always 1 or 2 that needed to be "roped" to keep them from kicking you or the machine off, how is that dealt with in a rotary?
nice set up
They had it figured out pretty good in 3 days. The first few days, they would come in, but didn't move their butt over. We call it the two step. Step in and then side step back. They just form a line and follow each other right in. Crowd gate keeps them moving the right direction, but doesn't really touch them. They love to ride. At one point in the video, I had to stop the rotary and back it up because a cow wanted to go around again!
In the old parlor, we had "kick stops" for those wild heifers, but we haven't used them at all on the rotary. They seem to love the smooth flow of the whole system and everything is really calm and quiet. |
