Do you find yourself 'drifting' during milking? Such as mildly losing track where you are supposed to be on the circle, prepping cows too far away from the entry, post-dipping too close to the exit, etc? It seems like that would be a possibility with your whole world spinning around you, unless you have a really good view of the unmoving outside of the circle.
Occasionally drift, but can slow it down or speed it up or stop it. When we started, we were at 50% speed (about 20 minutes per round). We went to 100% (10 minutes), but 2 guys just can't keep that pace for long. Now at 75% and it works good.
I lay out towels as I am dipping now. Dip 4, wipe 4, dip 4, wipe 4. Then I post dip when they get close to the exit. Leave a dipper at the last cow I dip so I can quickly see when I need to bounce back. My wife usually shows up after the first circle and takes over post dip. And then she makes sure the last 10 cows come in when we are finished. |
