We'll have to agree to disagree on the kidney function/protein issue. I've worked in the dialysis unit (where they need a lot of protein due to the dialysis process). And I've worked with patients in the various stages leading up to dialysis and trying to preserve kidney function as long as possible, so as to avoid going on dialysis. It doesn't need to be a low protein diet, but definitely controlled and not high protein. Perhaps if the patient were overweight/obese and went on a high protein diet and actually lost weight, it would improve the kidney function. Otherwise, a high protein diet would not be my recommendation.
